Job description

Grade: 5:  Points: 11 – 15.
Permanent:   36 hours per week (pupil term-time plus 5 days).
To start as soon as possible.

 

We are looking to expand our team of permanent Teaching Assistants at this successful and thriving community school to work within the Special Education Needs & Disabilities (SEND) department. These posts are intended for suitable applicants with appropriate experience of working with young people in the field of education or other related sectors and with the qualifications and/or skills to support learning. The role involves working alongside teachers, leading and supporting with small group interventions and in-class support for targeted students or groups of students on the SEND register.

We welcome graduates who may be considering teaching as a career.  Cranford Community College is a Schools Direct Lead School and leads the Cranford Teaching School Alliance with well-established progression routes whereby successful Teaching Assistants may embark upon teacher training programmes within the school.  We also have an SEN unit for students with ASD.

Teaching Assistants must demonstrate a willingness to become experts in a particular field and share that expertise with staff, students and families. The main spheres of interest currently include Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and English as an Additional Language (EAL).  Experience working with any of these groups would be desirable but is not essential.

Excellent literacy and numeracy skills are an essential requirement.  A commitment to further training and a willingness to gain further qualifications (in work and in own time) is an essential prerequisite for any applicant.

* Be able to develop excellent relationships with students and to motivate them to overcome barriers to learning
* Be able to evaluate and improve your impact and effectiveness
* Have an understanding of special needs and disability
* Have recognised skills in one or more areas of special needs
* Be calm, supportive and adaptable
* Be very organised and able to maintain accurate and appropriate records.
