Mandeville School is an ‘Outstanding’ primary special school for pupils who have severe or Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties; many of our pupils also have autism. Classes are organised on an age, need and learning style basis.
This role will require the successful candidate to support the medical needs of the child/children to which you are assigned this will include intimate care and administration of medicine and feeding.
The school is looking for someone who has:
- A Level 2 swimming teacher qualification or equivalent (Scottish Teaching Association), hold a Halliwick Instructor’s certificate or be prepared to gain a certificate within the first year as well as be a qualified lifeguard and ensure this is kept up to date every two years,
- Have at least 1 year’s proven swimming teaching experience within a school, or similar setting
- Have knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disability and how to support children with SEND to swim or use the water through therapeutic approaches.
- Have knowledge of the national governing body professional swimming standards and the national plan/curriculum standards for teaching swimming.
Your will need to:
- *To plan & deliver safe swimming lessons for all pupils; including children with physical and sensory impairment, severe and profound learning difficulties
- *To implement specialist swimming programmes and to plan and deliver lessons to meet the needs of pupils
- *To be able to use the hydrotherapy pool to support pupils who have a physical disability and sensory need
- *To support the delivery of therapeutic programmes in the pool
- *To teach and coach children and young people to develop swimming skills, technique and confidence in the water.
- *To advise the school to ensure the facilities (swimming pool & spa pool and changing & hygiene areas, water and plant) are appropriately maintained and kept safe.
- *Conduct daily chemical level tests of swimming pool and spa pool
