Job description

Fixed term contract. 32.5 hours per week. 39 weeks, term-time only (including training days)
Required: September 2022.

John Chilton School is a successful school for pupils who have complex physical, medical and learning difficulties.  We are innovative in our approach to educate pupils with a range of cognitive, physical and medical needs (4-19 years). We aim for our pupils to become confident, independent and motivated members of the community.

The school has two sites collocated within mainstream academies. The post holder will be expected to work across both sites.

This post is to support an identified pupil who has a Multi-Sensory Impairment to achieve full access to learning within the school curriculum. This will include enabling the pupil towards full inclusion into the wider experiences of the educational setting of the school, whilst promoting, at all times, their independence. The role is subject to conditions including funding for this post and is linked to a specific pupil attending the school.

 

You will:

  • Have at least a level 3 BSL qualification and be confident in communicating with families with BSL as a first language
  • Have a good general standard of education (for example:5 GCSEs including English and Mathematics at A* to C or Functional Skills Level 2 or a qualification in Supporting teaching and learning at minimum Level 2)
  • Be proficient in the use of relevant ICT equipment and packages including tablets, switches, Microsoft Office
  • Have experience of working with and supporting children with Special Educational Needs specific to the area of Sensory Impairment
  • Be suitably qualified in working with children and young people with Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment or Multi-Sensory Impairment or willing to attend training regarding specific difficulties associated with Multi-Sensory Impairment
  • Be hard working and committed to work with the identified pupil (presently Y11) across the age range (up to Y13)
  • Show initiative and the ability to be spontaneous
  • Understand that behaviour is a communication of need, and use a positive behaviour approach
  • Be a good team player who is willing to contribute to the ethos and wider community of the school.
