Ealing is one of London’s largest and most diverse boroughs. Ealing is changing, as a place and a council. We are shifting power to communities and transforming our relationship with our residents. This reflects our shared ambition to modernise local government in a way that empowers communities and liberates our workforce.
Service Designer
Become a Service Designer at Ealing, and work with our communities to design the best possible services from the Council.
The Transformation Service is part of the Council’s Strategy & Change function. You’ll be working with the Change Partnership which is becoming home to some of the Councils innovation and design community – made up of designers, researchers, analysts, and subject matter experts.
We are assembling a new team of skilled professionals connected by shared values and objectives. The type of work you will be involved in includes:
- Designing initiatives and services that help local people to have control over their lives and be happy and healthy.
- Enhancing the experience for people working for the Council.
- Leading communities of practice across the organisation.
As we grow the team we are recruiting to a number of roles, as well as this one – including Design Researchers and Delivery Managers.
Where we work
We work remotely most of the time. We try to go to the office at Ealing Headquarters once a week to connect and socialise, and some of our work is done in the communities of the borough of Ealing. This is flexible for the right candidate. We’ll review it together to make sure it works for everyone.
About the role
As a Service Designer, you will design the resident and community experience of services.
To do this you will:
- help identify insights and translate them into concepts, initiatives, and service designs.
- visualise and prototype services and experiences, using a range of methods.
- help teams understand the wider context of what they’re working on and how it fits into a service for residents.
- interrogate, improve and create the systems and processes needed to deliver services.
About you
The role will suit you if you:
- are or have been a Service Designer who wants to make a social impact.
- can work in a fast-paced environment, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- want to accelerate organisational and culture change by modelling design and innovation mindsets and practices.
Our priorities
Over the next year we plan to deliver:
- The Ealing Experience – a project to design the future working experiences for staff.
- Design for Growth – a project to design a range of initiatives, services and social innovations that prevent growth in demand for specialist services and interventions.
- Community Service Design Centres – a project to increase resident participation o the design of Council services.
