Job description

Environmental specialists in Ealing’s Environmental Protection Team provide a wide range of technical consultancy, environmental regulation and project management services to improve the quality of the natural and built environment in the borough. We cover air quality, environmental
permitting, land contamination, noise and vibration, light pollution, radiation and drinking water quality.

We are now looking to recruit for the position of Principal Environmental Protection Officer with extensive environmental noise protection knowledge and experience to join the team.

You will act as the lead acoustics/noise officer for the delivery of the Council’s statutory and non statutory functions where they concern matters relating to environmental noise protection from different sources of pollution (commercial, industrial, construction). This will include, but not limited to, work on development management/planning consultations, construction and environment management plans (CEMP), S61 prior approvals under legislation CoPA1974, development of local policies, action plans and ‘good practice guidance’, engaging with national, regional and local stakeholders (GLA, Defra, EA, OPDC and NSIP projects, such as HS2, Tideway, Heathrow) leading on complex investigations of alleged or reported noise/vibration breaches of
relevant British Standards, undertaking noise/vibration assessments and noise surveys as directed and offer technical advice to Enforcement Officers.
You will have previous experience of working in an environmental protection and pollution service and have comprehensive practical and technical knowledge and skills relating to environmental noise pollution and associated adverse (health) impacts.

An Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Diploma or equivalent post graduate qualification will be required for this role.
