Job description

Fixed Term, Part Time 21 hours per week

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the Ealing Health Improvement Team and co-ordinate the Mentors in Violence Prevention programme in schools across the borough.

Are you?

  • Confident and have the drive and enthusiasm to lead and co-ordinate the implementation of the MVP programme in schools across Ealing
  • Committed to making a visible difference to the lives of Ealing children and their families
  • An ambitious learning mentor, teacher, pastoral or youth worker with the skills and experience to deliver training to senior leaders and work with young people
  • An excellent communicator with the interpersonal and presentation skills to enable and empower young people to co-design the programme and train school staff to manage the programme.

We are looking to employ an exceptionally well organised, confident member of staff to lead and co-ordinate this programme. You will have experience of working with young people and delivering training to professionals. You will however be fully trained in MVP as part of your induction. You must be prepared to work in Ealing schools from September 2021 and we encourage applications and candidates from school, education, youth and public health services.

You will lead the project to extend the MVP programme to all our secondary schools with the potential to create links with primary schools too. The programme focuses on educating young people in order to eradicate all forms of gender-based violence through a whole-school intervention that focuses on tools to empower young people to speak up instead of being silent when faced with peer behaviour that is a cause for concern. It is an impactful programme used widely in schools in Scotland and through its implementation will enable you and the schools to actively contribute to a public health approach to violence reduction.

In return, you will be supported and be an integral member of the health improvement team who have worked hard to create and sustain positive working relationship with Ealing schools. We are a team that is supportive, inclusive, innovative and hard-working, and we work closely with our colleagues in health, social care and safeguarding. Above all else we are committed to making a difference to the health and wellbeing of children and young people in Ealing.

This role is deemed customer facing and as such you must have a command of spoken English which is sufficient to enable you to effectively perform the role. This requirement relates to Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016.

Ealing council is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. Ealing follows safer recruitment practices to protect children and vulnerable adults. The post holder will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

This role is subject to Ealing Council’s enhanced vetting process.

The project will run for two years part time from September 2021.

Please get in touch with Karen Gibson, Health Improvement Manager at KGibson@ealing.gov.uk to discuss the role in more detail and/or to find out more about the opportunity it will afford.

Closing date: 24 June 2021
