Job description

Tackling the climate crisis is one of the councils top three priorities that permeates everything we do. We are looking for a highly motivated and effective leader to join our directorate as Head of Climate Action and Sustainability. Working in the Economy and Sustainability Directorate, reporting to the Assistant Director for Planning, Design and Sustainability you will take the lead on ensuring that, as a council and a borough, we are doing all we can to address climate change and promote sustainability.

Ealing’s Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy, published in 2021 sets out how the council will work towards making Ealing Carbon neutral by 2030 and this provides a focus for the work of the service. Much progress has been made, but there is a lot more to do.

We are looking for an exceptional individual, who is passionate about Climate Action and Sustainability and who possesses the skills and experience to successfully deliver the Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy and more. Crucially, the successful candidate will be an innovative thinker who knows how to motivate, inform and bring people together, working across the council and with external stakeholders (residents, businesses, other public sector organisations, voluntary and community sector organisations) to deliver our Climate Action ambitions.

The successful candidates will be working in a directorate full of people dedicated to achieving great things, and in an organisation with an appetite for innovation and continuous improvement to ensure we deliver the best for our residents, businesses and visitors.

The Planning, Design and Sustainability division is relatively new, bringing together Strategic Planning, Development Management, Enforcement, Infrastructure Planning and Climate Action and Sustainability. The successful candidate will be working in a directorate full of people dedicated to achieving great things, and in an organisation with an appetite for innovation and continuous improvement to ensure we deliver the best for our residents, businesses and visitors.

This role is deemed customer facing and as such you must have a command of spoken English which is sufficient to enable you to effectively perform the role. This requirement relates to Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016.

This role is subject to Ealing Council’s enhanced vetting process.
