Fixed-term contract for external applicants and/or secondment opportunity for Ealing Council employees for two years

Ealing Council are offering an exciting opportunity for a dedicated graduate to gain experience and work towards full qualification and registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner under the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) pathway.

The Role:

As a Graduate Environmental Health Officer, you will:

• Work towards your professional qualification and registration with the CIEH
• Develop the practical knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to become a fully qualified Environmental Health Practitioner
• Support the delivery of the Council’s statutory and non-statutory environmental health functions, policies and strategic objectives
• Help promote regulatory compliance among landlords, food businesses, and other duty holders through targeted education, advice, interventions, and enforcement where necessary
• Respond to and investigate complaints and service requests across a wide range of Environmental Health matters, including housing standards, food safety, environmental protection and public health
• Liaise with internal departments and external agencies such as the FSA, HSE, DEFRA, EA, MHCLG, police and fire services, to deliver a joined-up approach to public protection and safety.

Ealing has excellent transport links being easily accessible by car and public transport. Ealing Broadway station is ten minutes’ walk from our offices and is served by both London Underground and Great Western over land train lines. If you use your vehicle for work, we will also be able to offer free parking at our offices.

If you are looking to start your career in a fast-paced environment where you will be supported to learn and exercise the full range of enforcement powers across Environmental Health Services, then this is the role for you. Part of this role will involve a one off project to provide an advisory and support service to food businesses located in Southall to improve their Food Hygiene Rating.

You will be expected to:
• Carry out the full range of food and health and safety work including investigation, inspection, enforcement and advisory services
• Within 6 months of the role you will carry out a food advisory and support service to food business in Southall with an overall aim to improve their Food Hygiene Rating.

Applicants must hold, or be about to obtain, a CIEH accredited qualification in Environmental Health at a minimum of level 6 (i.e. BSc, MSc or Level 6 Apprenticeship)
