Job description

Projects Delivery Unit is seeking an experienced and energetic individual to lead its building & engineering services team, working alongside its team of professionals to support the Council’s development portfolio.
Previous experience of working in a Local Authority environment on community infrastructure including schools and leisure projects would be advantageous.

The successful applicant will be based in Perceval House, working around the borough of Ealing and will need to be highly self-motivated and possessing a firm commercial grounding.
This is a full-time and permanent post with a minimum requirement of 2 days per week in the office.

The main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

– Lead and develop a team of in-house and external engineers, surveyors and asset managers and provide direction to consultants and contractors.
– Manage projects in line with the Council’s approved Gateways, liaising with designers, contractors, stakeholders and end-users as necessary.
– Responsible for overseeing Council wide delivery of projects in relation to all works contracts managed by the PDU.
– Act as an ambassador for the Council’s Economy and Sustainability directorate, championing best practice.
– Ensuring that supervised staff comply with Health and Safety legislation and follow Council H&S policy and procedures.
– Work closely with Project Management and Architects Query teams and provide commercial support to Quantity Surveying team and wider PDU in relation to contract variations and procurement advice.

This is an exciting role which will give the successful candidate a broad experience in a projects reaching across the Council’s various directorates.
To be successful in this role you will:

• Be dynamic, an effective communicator able to lead a team and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

• Be adaptable and have a flexible working style with ability to pick up and independently lead a wide range of different tasks.

• Be experienced in use of project and programme management practices and tools and putting these into practice. Knowledge of building surveying and engineering, including MEP and structural engineering and ability to lead and direct these specialisms.

• Have the ability to work under pressure to challenging timetables and manage a varied workload with competing priorities.
