Are you a strategic finance leader looking to make a meaningful difference in local government? We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Director, Finance Business Partnering to join our high-performing Finance team at Ealing Council.
About the Role
This senior leadership role is critical in supporting the development and delivery of the Council’s Medium-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS), annual budgets, and capital programme. You will lead a team of dedicated finance managers and accountants and provide strategic financial support to service areas, ensuring sound financial governance, sustainability, and value for money across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the council’s finance business partnering function, providing strategic financial advice and challenge to senior leaders.
- Support the development and monitoring of the MTFS, annual budgets, and capital programme for both the General Fund and HRA.
- Deliver high-quality, customer-focused financial support to directorates to inform business planning and decision-making.
- Lead financial oversight of significant budgets, including service budgets (£285m), HRA (£90m), and capital programme (£1.3bn).
- Represent the Deputy Director, Finance when required and contribute to corporate financial leadership across the council.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a qualified, strategic finance professional with:
- A CCAB/CIPFA/CIMA qualification and evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Significant experience of leading finance teams in a complex public sector or local authority environment.
- Deep understanding of local government finance legislation and accounting standards.
- Proven ability to influence and advise senior leaders, including elected members.
- A track record of driving financial improvement, innovation, and value for money.
- A collaborative, inclusive, and innovative approach aligned with our connected communities principles and our values.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
