Job description

1 Year Fixed Term Contract

“Ealing is changing. As a place and as a council. We have a plan and we’re clear about where we need to get to. What can you do to help us?’’ Council leader Peter Mason

Ealing is a richly diverse borough in west London, with the third most ethnically diverse local population in the UK.

We are home to the globally iconic Ealing Studios, and the technically advanced film production complex in Garden Studios, along with a burgeoning hive of associated creative businesses.

The Ealing Summer Festivals programme brings comedy, blues, jazz, and much more. Our borough’s eclectic south Asian restaurants, shops and bars are renowned.

Ealing is also one of London’s best-connected boroughs, with the Elizabeth Line, national rail services and 3 Underground lines.

Making change

Our borough is amazing, but we know it can change for the better. That is why the council, and its partners, are working so hard to bring good, well-paid jobs back to the borough; are taking real climate action; and are relentlessly striving to tackle the inequalities that hold people back from achieving their aspirations. These are our priorities.

Meeting our ambitions calls for a new culture. Our new vision is Connected Communities.  Research shows that social connection has a greater impact on our health than smoking, drinking or exercise. It also has a direct link to equality of opportunity, education, housing, and earnings. When people feel connected and supported – not just by institutions, but by each other, they thrive, and they are less likely to slip into crisis.

We aim to massively increase social connection in the borough, giving everyone as much choice and power in their lives as possible – so that people can live happier and healthier lives and get more of what they need from each other.

Connected communities isn’t just about specific projects or initiatives: it’s at the heart of everything we do as a council. We will always provide support to those who need it, but we know that residents want to do more to help each other, too. So, we all need to rise to the challenge, and focus our efforts on finding new ways of working with communities to create the conditions for social connection to flourish.

That is why we need you…

With this in mind, Ealing Council’s communications team has undergone some exciting changes. We are looking to add to the seriously creative and committed people we now have in the team to help us lead and drive this change

We are now recruiting a part time (17.5 hours a week) communications and campaigns officer to lead on our commitment to decent living incomes for people living in our 7 towns.

In this role you will design and deliver strategic communications and campaigns that are wholly related to business objectives and are shaped by audience and community insight. You will need to provide regular evaluation reports and show the impact of your plans.

Your creativity is critical to this role, and you will be an excellent writer across a range of platforms. You will also be skilled at taking complex information and transforming it into accessible, engaging and inclusive communications assets.

There is a real sense of the new and of being in at the start of an exciting time for the communications team: a team that is invested in Ealing, supports one another and is eager to think and work differently.

This post is subject to Ealing’s enhanced vetting process.

You must have the right to work in the UK.
