Job description

Cowgate is part of the Adults’ Service and Public Health directorate within Ealing Council and provides support to people with severe and complex learning disabilities and autism. Cowgate supports people within a day service to learn important life skills through structured activities within the centre and in the community.

We are currently seeking a Disability Support Worker and are looking for people who are motivated and are passionate about working in care.

You will be supporting people on a daily basis encouraging people to attend individual or group activities which are designed to help people socialise, learn to communicate or develop new skills. You will need to be prepared to carry out personal care for people and sometimes work with behaviour that challenges.

You will maintain a small key-working group and liaise with stakeholders such as carers and other professionals involved in people’s care, helping to develop support plans and organising reviews.

Patience, understanding and good all round great communication skills are an essential part of the role.

If you have:

  • Substantial experience working with adults with learning disabilities and autism.
  • Computer literacy skills and knowledge of how to use IT.
  • The ability to work as a team and also on your own initiative, and sometimes lone working.
