Ealing is a highly diverse and vibrant borough in the west of London. Home to nearly 350,000 people, it is the third largest borough by population in London and is an exciting, diverse and challenging place to live and work.

The maternity leave cover post will lead on tackling Public Health challenges including the Health and Well- Being of older people, Health Intelligence and Tackling Health Inequalities by addressing the wider determinants of health. In particular, you will support the development of the Health & Wellbeing Strategy and take forward inequalities-related work arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fixed-term post will lead on tackling Public Health challenges focusing upon Ealing’s COVID-19 Prevention and Outbreak Control Plan and COVID-19 response and recovery. This is a senior strategic role, working closely with and supported by a well-functioning, collaborative COVID-19 function across multiple Council teams. This includes working with senior colleagues to support the Council’s commitment to reducing inequalities in local communities, which have been particularly impacted by the pandemic.

Your collegiate style and high-quality advice will be respected by internal and external partners, as will your ability to work closely across the Council.

Both roles offer a great learning opportunity for anyone wanting to work in a council Public Health department in the longer term, or equally for anyone looking to get a good understanding of how Public Health works in a council. The team has a strong learning ethos and provides a very supportive environment and an opportunity to support wider team development.

There has never been a better time to join the team at Ealing. We are delivering an ambitious change programme Future Ealing, which puts Health and Well-being at its heart, committed to improving outcomes for local residents. This is a great opportunity to join a Council looking to strengthen its innovative approach to Health and Well-Being across all of our communities.

By joining Ealing, you will be part of a respected, innovative and diverse London borough with a strong reputation for its commitment to Health and Well-Being. Public Health sits at the forefront of our early intervention and prevention work and so we are looking for a Consultant who enjoys building strong relationships with partners and embraces the opportunities of working within a Council setting.

The maternity leave cover post will be for a 9-month period, with possibly opportunity for extension.

The fixed-term post would ideally work full-time for the 6 month-period, with possibility of extension. However, please do contact us if you would like to discuss an alternative working pattern.

Currently, the majority of staff are working virtually from home, with limited attendance required on occasion at in-person public meetings.

For a discussion in confidence, please contact Anna Bryden, Director of Public Health brydena@ealing.gov.uk. Please use “Consultant role” in your email heading.

This post is subject to Ealing’s enhanced vetting process.

Ealing Council employees will be offered a secondment, external candidates will be offered a fixed term contract. Ealing employees please ensure the secondment release form is signed by your line manager prior to applying. Please return your completed form to: hrssc-recruitmentteam@ealing.gov.uk
